Blinded

I used to believe that ‘the curse of the golden flowers’ is the shiniest movie I’ve ever seen: golden costume, golden make up, golden palace decorated with golden flower. But after watching ‘sunshine’, I realized that it’s not necessarily correct to say ‘the gold will shine wherever you put it’, you cannot expect to see a shinning piece of gold in absolute darkness—simply speaking, I’ve changed my mind: now I claim that ‘sunshine’ is the most shinny movie I’ve seen and I seriously recommend everyone to take their sunglasses with them to the cinema.
I remember writing an essay arguing that all the ‘very creative’ imagination in science fictions can be traced back to the desires of the human beings in the contemporary world. Well then, why did somebody suddenly worry about:

What happen if the sun dies?

It is an interesting suggestion, since the thing we worry the most nowadays seems to be what happen if the global warming continues. As to that topic, we have ‘the water world’. But the apocalyptical story for the dying sun, most superficially, can be seen as come from the concern for the exhausted energy. Or, most metaphysically, as we can suggest also from the break down of multi-national scientists group, the failure of the purely ‘guess’ instead of a reasonable ‘decision’ from the physics genius (thus the failure of rationality we human beings have always been so proud of), and finally the failure of democracy, when the last four people have to decide whether they need to kill the Japanese or not, the dying sun can also be seen as signifying the dying of an absolute value, something can be hold on to by the general public, in the post-modern time. No matter how many Nobel prizes you win, it is simply gambling; no matter you vote for it or not, he must die (this must be most commonly acknowledged now I guess, just like no matter you agree or not they are determined to ‘liberate’ Iraq). Survival is not necessarily for the fittest, it sometimes happened to be won by the maddest. When everything is compatible and negotiable it seems at least some thing will be sacrificed: the sense of belonging and the sense of safety.
